Harassment In The Workplace

Harassment used to be a hot news topic. Today, it is a hot legal issue for any employer whose corporate behavior is not in alignment with Title VII.

The Human Resource Store Can Help...

The Human Resource Store is comprised of a network of both local and national specialists with expertise in a variety of fields. Furthermore, we have members with credentials in training on the issue of harassment.

Options

  • Public Workshops/Seminars
These give any attendee an introduction and overview of any new subject. However, unless the attendee assimilates and integrates the knowledge into a workable format, the value of the workshop is limited.
  • One-on-One Consultation
If personal attention or special coaching is needed on this subject, this choice is highly recommended, especially for any manager or person responsible for creating your harassment policy.
  • Customized Workshops
You can have a customized workshop on harassment created around your own specific needs. This can be the best way to get the most for your money by providing a workshop where company members can experience, share and learn about internal issues unique to your company. From this you can then create a group commitment to behavior you agree to and that is in alignment with the law.
  • Our Guide to Writing a Sexual Harassment Policy
Did you know that the average settlement when an employee sues an employer for sexual harassment is $88,000?
We can show you how to protect your company from lawsuits by writing your firm's policies and procedures regarding sexual harassment into your policy manual.

Definition of Sexual Harassment

Sexual harassment can be defined as unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors and other verbal or physical conduct of a sexual nature when:

  • Submission in such conditions made either explicitly or implicitly a term or condition of an individual's employment
  • Submission to, or rejection of, such conduct by an individual is used as a basis for employment decisions

Such conduct has the purpose or effect of unreasonably interfering with an individual's work performance or creating an intimidating, hostile, or offensive working environment.

Different Perspectives on Sexual Harassment

In an article written by Geoffrey Glaser, he makes clear the need for people to “develop a better understanding of what sexual harassment is and then what to do if it occurs.

In fact, in a nationwide survey, a divergence of opinion on the question of whether sexual harassment in the workplace is exaggerated was discovered.
